

The University of Montana (UM, U of M, or The U) is a state university (State university system) located in Missoula, Montana, U.S. (United States) The school was founded in 1893. It is the largest campus in the five-campus University of Montana System.
The university has seven colleges: Arts and Sciences, Health Professions (Health profession) and Biomedical (Biomedicine) Sciences, the Davidson Honors College, Education and Human Sciences (education), Forestry and Conservation (conservation biology), Technology, and Visual and Performing Arts (fine arts). There are three schools in the University of Montana: Business Administration, Journalism, and Law. The university also has a Continuing Education academic unit.
The university calls itself a city within a city, and contains its own eateries (restaurant), medical (medicine) facilities, banking, postal services (U.S. Postal Service), and ZIP Code.
The University of Montana ranks 17th in the nation and fifth among public universities in producing Rhodes Scholars (Rhodes Scholarship), with a total of 28 such scholars. The University of Montana has 11 Truman Scholars, 14 Goldwater Scholars and 31 Udall Scholar (Morris K. Udall Foundation)s to its name.
The University of Montana?s Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library houses the earliest authorized edition of the Lewis and Clark journals.
Rolling Stone magazine has called the university the "Most scenic campus in America", while Outside Magazine states "Among the top 10 colleges nationally for combining academic quality and outdoor recreation".
