Theresa Mary May (n�e (Married and maiden names) Brasier, born 1 October 1956) is a British Conservative (Conservative Party (United Kingdom)) politician who serves as Home Secretary in the current Conservative - Liberal Democrat Coalition (Conservative - Liberal Democrat Coalition Agreement). She was elected to Parliament in 1997 as member for Maidenhead (Maidenhead (UK Parliament constituency)), and served as chairman of the Conservative Party from 2003 to 2004. Appointed to the Privy Council (Her Majestys Most Honourable Privy Council) in 2003, she became Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and Shadow Minister for Women before being created Home Secretary (with responsibility for national security and the police) and Minister for Women and Equality in David Camerons cabinet (Cabinet of the United Kingdom#Current cabinet) on 11 May 2010.
