Ryan Francis Garko (born January 2, 1981 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a Major League Baseball first baseman in the Texas Rangers (Texas Rangers (baseball)) organization. He has also played for the Cleveland Indians, and the San Francisco Giants. Garko is seen as a good hitter with poor base running skills, and poor defensive instincts. He is not seen as a pull hitter, and hits to all sides of the field (baseball field). He is not strikeout prone, however, he doesnt generate a large amount of walks (base on balls).
While he attended Stanford University, Garko won the Johnny Bench Award and was named the Pac-10 Co-Player of the Year his senior (senior (education)) year. He was also voted onto the College World Series Legends Team, featuring 28 of the best College World Series players as voted upon by fans, writers, and head coaches (Manager (baseball)). Formerly a catcher, Garko was converted into a first baseman during his time in Cleveland Indians organization. During the mlby2006 season, Baseball America ranked Garko as the fifth best prospect in the Indians organization, including being the best at hitting for average (batting average ).
