Psych is an American (United States) criminal (crime drama) comedy-drama television series created by Steve Franks and broadcast on USA Network. The show stars James Roday as Shawn Spencer, a young crime consultant for the Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara, California) Police Department whose "heightened observational skills" and impressive detective instincts allow him to convince people that he solves cases with psychic abilities. The program also stars Dul� Hill as Shawns best friend, straight man (Double act), and reluctant partner Burton "Gus" Guster (Burton Guster), as well as Corbin Bernsen as Shawns captious father, Henry (Henry Spencer (Psych character)).

The series airs new episodes in the US on Wednesdays at 10PM ET/PT on USA Network. During the second season, an animated segment was added to the series titled "The Big Adventures of Little Shawn and Gus." Psych debuted Friday, July 7, 2006, immediately following the fifth season (Monk (season 5)) premiere of Monk (Monk (TV series)), and continued to be paired with the show until Monks end in late 2009. The show was the highest-rated U.S. basic cable television premiere of 2006. William Rabkin has written three books that tie in with the show. Psych ended its fourth season on March 10, 2010. Season 5 will premiere on July 14, 2010.
