Mohammad Mushfiqur Rahim (not to be confused with Mushfiqur Rahman) (lang-bn????????? ???????? ????) (born 1 September 1988, in Bogra) is a cricketer from Bangladesh and vice-captain of the national team (Bangladesh national cricket team). He specialises as a wicketkeeper and is a lower-order (Batting order (cricket)) batsman.
He was a wildcard inclusion for Bangladeshs maiden tour of England in 2005, Mushfiqur Rahim was just 16 years old when he was selected for their daunting two-Test, six one-day international tour, having not even been named in the preliminary squad of 20. Principally selected as an understudy to the teams ever-present wicketkeeper, Khaled Mashud, Rahims inclusion was further evidence of Bangladeshs determination to build for a better future. He had enjoyed some success on the Under-19 tour of England in 2004, scoring 88 in the second Test at Taunton, and he showed more evidence of his gritty talents the following season, with a maiden first-class half-century to soften the pain of defeat against Sussex, followed by a career-best 115 against Northants. During the 2006 U-19 Cricket World Cup, Rahim captained the Bangladesh side (Bangladeshi U-19 cricket team), which reached the quarter finals (2006 U-19 Cricket World Cup#Quarter Finals Results).
He scored his maiden half-century at Harare against Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe cricket team) and was picked as the first-choice wicketkeeper ahead of Mashud for the World Cup in the West Indies (2007 Cricket World Cup).
Mushfiqur Rahim despite his size is one of the most boisterous people on the field and although he is not the captain is known to tell his fellow cricketers where to go. Sometimes he can be the only one heard on the field as he did in a world cup match against The West Indies, when he was very noisy and encouraging for the whole West Indian innings.
Rahim was appointed vice-captain for Bangladeshs tour of Zimbabwe in August 2009 (Bangladeshi cricket team in Zimbabwe in 2009). The position was vacated as the previous vice-captain, Shakib Al Hasan, was filling-in for as captain for the injured Mashrafe Mortaza.
Rahim retained the vice-captaincy for the Home Test Series against India in January-February 2010, and on 21 January, the fifth day of the First Test, he scored his maiden Test Century and the fastest by a Bangladeshi in test cricket, off only 112 balls as Bangladesh delayed an Indian victory, being the last man out as India won by 113 runs.
