A Morkie is a small domestic dog. It is a cross (crossbreed) between a Maltese (Maltese (dog)) and a Yorkshire Terrier, and Morkie is a portmanteau word (Portmanteau) combining the two breed names of this Designer dog. As a hybrid dog breed (dog hybrid), the Morkie will take on characteristics of both of its originating breeds, the Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier. While the term Morkie can stand for any puppy that has heritage in only the Yorkie and Maltese breeds, most Morkies that you will come across are first generation (f1 hybrid) hybrids, meaning that they are offspring of one purebred Maltese and one purebred Yorkshire Terrier. The further a Morkie is from the first generation Morkie, the less pronounced the characteristics of the Yorkie and Maltese will be in the puppy.
