Mark Rutte (IPA-nl?m?rk ?r?t?; born February 14, 1967) is a Dutch (Netherlands) politician of the Peoples Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). He was State Secretary (State Secretary (Netherlands)) for Social Affairs and Employment (Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (Netherlands)) from July 22, 2002, until June 17, 2004, and State Secretary (State Secretary (Netherlands)) for Education, Culture and Science (Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (Netherlands)) from June 17, 2004, until June 27, 2006, in the Cabinets Balkenende I (Netherlands cabinet Balkenende-1) and II (Netherlands cabinet Balkenende-2). He resigned as State Secretary (State Secretary (Netherlands)) in June 2006 to return to the House of Representatives (House of Representatives of the Netherlands) and become the Parliamentary leader (Parliamentary group leader) of the VVD.
He was the lijsttrekker for the VVD for the Dutch general election of 2006 (Dutch general election, 2006). He was once again the lijsttrekker for the Dutch general election of 2010 (Dutch general election, 2010) where his party became the biggest party. He has been the Party leader of the VVD since May 31, 2006.
