She is the 2010 Winter Olympic silver medalist (Figure skating at the 2010 Winter Olympics - Ladies singles), the 2008 & 2010 World champion (World Figure Skating Championships), the 2008 & 2010 Four Continents champion (Four Continents Championships), a two-time (2005-2006 & 2008-2009) Grand Prix Final champion (Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final), the 2005 World Junior champion (World Junior Figure Skating Championships), the 2004-2005 Junior Grand Prix Final champion (ISU Junior Grand Prix) and a four-time (2006-2009) Japanese national champion (Japanese Figure Skating Championships).
As of201005, she was ranked third in the world by the International Skating Union (ISU).
