John David Dingell, Jr. (born July 8, 1926) is a Democratic (United States Democratic Party) United States Representative from Michigan and is currently the Dean of the U.S. House of Representatives. He is the longest serving Representative (List of United States Congressmen by longevity of service#House time) and the third longest serving Congressman (List of United States Congressmen by longevity of service#House and Senate time) ever. Since 1955, he has represented a district that was first in western Detroit but has successively moved further into that citys western suburbs, currently Michigans 15th congressional district. Dingell is the longest-serving member of the House in US history and is currently the second longest-serving member of Congress after Senator (United States Senate) and President pro tempore (President pro tempore of the United States Senate) Robert Byrd of West Virginia.
