iTunes is a proprietary (Proprietary software) digital (digital media) media player (media player (application software)) application, used for playing and organizing digital music and video files. The application is also an interface (Interface (computer science)) to manage the contents on Apples popular iPod and other digital media players such as the iPhone and iPad. Additionally, iTunes can connect to the iTunes Store via the Internet to purchase and download music, music videos, television shows, iPod games, audiobooks, podcasts, feature length films and movie rentals (not available in all countries), and ringtones (only used for iPhone). It is also used to download applications (AppStore) for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iPhone OS 2.0 or later.

iTunes was introduced by Apple Inc. on January 9, 2001, at the Macworld Expo (Macworld Conference & Expo) in San Francisco. At Apples September 2009 "Rock and Roll" keynote (Stevenote), iTunes 9, was announced. iTuness latest version is 9.1.1, which adds support for the iPad and iPhone OS 4.0 beta, which is currently under development.

iTunes is available as a free download for Mac OS X v10.4 or later (Mac OS X) and Windows XP or later (Windows (OS)) from Apples website. It is also bundled (Product bundling) with all Macs (Mac OS X), and some HP (Hewlett-Packard) and Dell computers.Factdate=May 2010 Older versions are available for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X v10.0-10.3, and Windows 2000.
