The Irish Wolfhound (lang-gaC Faoil, IPA-ga?ku? ?f?i?l?) is a breed (dog breed) of domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris), specifically a sighthound. The name originates from its purpose (wolf hunting) rather than from its appearance. If their connection to the Celtic (Celts) dogs used at the sacking of Delphi (Gallic_invasion_of_the_Balkans#The_attack_on_Delphi) during the Iron Age is accurate, then their name derives indeed from that of the earliest bohemian tribes (Volcae) from central Europe. Irish Wolfhounds are the tallest dog breed on average.
