Frank Raleigh Lautenberg (IPA-en?l??t?nb?r?pron; born January 23, 1924) is the senior United States Senator (United States Senate) from New Jersey and a member of the Democratic Party (Democratic Party (United States)). He is serving his fifth non-consecutive term in the Senate, first serving from 1982 to 2001 and again since 2003; he is the only current Senator to have returned to office after having retired from the Senate. Lautenberg is the second oldest (List of current United States Senators by age) member of the Senate, after Robert Byrd of West Virginia.
The railroad terminal in Secaucus, New Jersey is named for him because he helped allocate federal funds to build it.
