Diverticulitis is a common digestive disease particularly found in the large intestine. Diverticulitis develops from diverticulosis, which involves the formation of pouches (diverticula) on the outside of the colon (colon (anatomy)). Diverticulitis results if one of these diverticula becomes inflamed.
