Cassis (IPA-frkasi, kasis; Occitan (Occitan language): Casss) is a commune (communes of France) situated east of Marseille in the administrative department (departments of France) of the Bouches-du-Rhne in the Provence-Alpes-Cte dAzur region (regions of France) in southern France. It is a popular tourist destination, famous for its cliffs (falaises) and the sheltered inlets called calanques. The wines of Cassis (Provence wine) are white and ros, and not to be confused with crme de cassis, a specialty of Burgundy (Burgundy (region)) which takes its name from blackcurrants (cassis), not the commune.
