Astra (Sanskrit (Sanskrit language): ??????, Astra (International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration) "Weapon") is an active radar homing beyond-visual-range (Beyond Visual Range missile) air-to-air missile (BVRAAM) (Air-to-air missile) developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), India. This is the first air-to-air missile developed by India---an advanced missile that enables fighter pilots to lock-on and shoot down enemy aircraft from a distance of more than 80 km away.
