Anthony David Weiner (pron-en?wi?n?r; born September 4, 1964) is a Democratic (Democratic Party (United States)) member of the United States House of Representatives, representing New Yorks 9th congressional district since 1999. The district includes parts of southern Brooklyn and south central Queens. In Queens, the 9th includes the neighborhoods of Forest Hills (Forest Hills, Queens), Maspeth (Maspeth, Queens), Fresh Meadows (Fresh Meadows, Queens), Glendale (Glendale, Queens), Howard Beach (Howard Beach, Queens), Kew Gardens (Kew Gardens, Queens), Kew Gardens Hills (Kew Gardens Hills, Queens), Middle Village (Middle Village, Queens), Ozone Park (Ozone Park, Queens), Rego Park (Rego Park, Queens), Rockaway Beach (Rockaway Beach, Queens), and Woodhaven (Woodhaven, Queens). Its Brooklyn section includes Flatlands (Flatlands, Brooklyn), Gerritsen Beach (Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn), Marine Park (Marine Park, Brooklyn), Midwood (Midwood, Brooklyn), Mill Basin (Mill Basin, Brooklyn) and Sheepshead Bay (Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn).
Weiner defeated Republican (Republican Party (United States)) Louis Telano in the 1998 U.S. House election (United States House of Representatives elections, 1998), by a margin of 66%-23%. He was re-elected in 2000 (United States House of Representatives elections, 2000), 2002 (United States House of Representatives elections, 2002), 2004 (United States House of Representatives elections, 2004), 2006 (United States House of Representatives elections, 2006), and 2008 (United States House of Representatives elections, 2008), never receiving below 65%. In the House, he is a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce (United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce) and Committee on the Judiciary (United States House Committee on the Judiciary). He was an unsuccessful candidate for Mayor of New York City in the 2005 mayoral election (New York City mayoral election, 2005).
A graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh (State University of New York at Plattsburgh), Weiner was an aide to then-U.S. Representative (United States House of Representatives) Charles Schumer (1985-91) before serving as a member of the New York City Council from 1992 to 1998.
