Allen Ezail Iverson (born June 7, 1975, in Hampton (Hampton, Virginia), Virginia), nicknamed The Answer, is an American (United States) professional basketball player who is on leave from the Philadelphia 76ers for the remainder of the 2009-10 NBA season. The 76ers selected Iverson with the number one pick (List of first overall NBA draft picks) in the 1996 NBA Draft. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year (NBA Rookie of the Year Award) in 1996-97 season (1996-97 NBA season). Iverson is an eleven-time NBA All-Star (List of NBA All-Stars) which includes winning the All-Star MVP award (NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award) in 2001 (2001 NBA All-Star Game) and 2005 (2005 NBA All-Star Game).

Winning the NBA scoring title (List of National Basketball Association season scoring leaders) during the 1998-99 (1998-99 NBA season), 2000-01 (2000-01 NBA season), 2001-02 (2001-02 NBA season) and 2004-05 (2004-05 NBA season) seasons, Iverson has become one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history, despite his small (listed at 6 feet, 0 inches) stature, with a career scoring average of 26.7 points per game, being sixth all-time. Iverson was also the NBA Most Valuable Player (NBA Most Valuable Player Award) of the 2000-01 season (2000-01 NBA season) and led his team to the 2001 NBA Finals the same season. Iverson represented the United States (United States mens national basketball team) at the 2004 Summer Olympics (Basketball at the 2004 Summer Olympics), winning the Bronze medal. He also played for the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and the Memphis Grizzlies, before returning to the 76ers for part of the 2009-10 season (2009-10 NBA season).
